This week we’ve had a Helpdesk question on how to create aggregated shapefiles within Maptitude, something we thought was interesting and worth sharing.
A Police Force was looking to change the boundaries of their BCUs (Basic Command Units) and needed to create a new shapefile aggregating up from their current sectors. This was achieved by first reading in a spreadsheet with each sector and the name of the new BCU it would sit under. This was done using the using the Join Dataviews functionality. We then used the ‘Merge by Value’ functionality found in Tools -> Editing to create the combined areas.
In the following video, we show how to create a shapefile for an aggregated level of geography using the Merge by Value function.
